Terms of Service
Last updated: 1 May 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Foothold (foothold.community) and the Foothold Slack onboarding automation service (the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Foothold provides automated onboarding message sequences for paid Slack communities. The Service sends direct messages to new members of your Slack workspace on your behalf, according to sequences you configure. We operate as a Slack app installed in your workspace.
2. Account and eligibility
You must be 18 or older and authorized to enter binding contracts. If you use Foothold on behalf of a company or organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity to these Terms. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Send spam, unsolicited messages, or messages that violate Slack's Terms of Service or API policies.
- Harass, threaten, or abuse community members.
- Send messages containing illegal content, malware, or phishing attempts.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or copy the Service beyond what is permitted by applicable law.
- Circumvent rate limits, security measures, or access controls.
- Resell or sublicense access to the Service without our written permission.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with or without prior notice, at our sole discretion.
4. Your data and Slack permissions
By installing the Foothold Slack app, you grant us the Slack API scopes necessary to send direct messages to new members and read basic membership information. You control which sequences run and can disconnect the app at any time through Slack's App Management settings. When you disconnect, we cease sending messages on your behalf. We handle your workspace data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
5. Community member consent
You are responsible for ensuring your use of Foothold complies with applicable laws regarding electronic messaging in your jurisdiction, including any consent requirements. As the operator of the paid Slack community, you represent that members have agreed to receive communications from you as part of their membership. Foothold provides an opt-out mechanism in every automated message; you agree not to disable this mechanism.
6. Payment and billing
Paid plans are billed monthly or annually as stated at checkout. All fees are exclusive of taxes. Fees are non-refundable except where required by law or as stated in our refund policy. We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days' notice to your registered email. If you downgrade mid-billing period, changes take effect at the next renewal. If you cancel, you retain access through the end of your current billing period.
7. Free trial
We offer a 14-day free trial on paid plans. No credit card is required to start a trial. At the end of the trial period, the Service suspends unless you add a payment method. We do not automatically charge you after a trial.
8. Intellectual property
The Foothold platform, its codebase, design, and documentation are our intellectual property. These Terms grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service as described here. You retain ownership of your Slack workspace data, community content, and message templates you create.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular onboarding outcome (retention rate, posting rate, revenue) will be achieved. You use the Service at your own risk.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising from your use of the Service is limited to the fees you paid us in the 3 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits or data loss.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Foothold harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, or your violation of any third-party rights including Slack's policies.
12. Termination
Either party may terminate these Terms at any time. You may terminate by disconnecting the Slack app and canceling any paid subscription. We may terminate or suspend your access for violation of these Terms, non-payment, or at our discretion with 30 days' notice. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections 9–11 survive termination.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which we operate, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions. Disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration or in courts of competent jurisdiction as applicable.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. We will post changes here and update the "last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance. Material changes will be notified by email to registered users.
