The community-level NPS that an operator observes is the weighted average of the product A cohort scores and the product B cohort scores, weighted by the proportion of members in each cohort. Community-level NPS is calculated as: (total promoters − total detractors) / total respondents, expressed as a percentage. Total promoters: 58 + 36 + 4 = 98. Total detractors: 9 + 42 + 68 = 119. Total respondents: 300. NPS = (98 − 119) / 300 = −21 / 300 = −0.07, or approximately −7. This is below the 14–26 range cited earlier because I used 30% in each of the three tiers for simplicity; a real community typically has fewer zero-activation members and more partial-activation members, which lifts the community NPS into the 14–26 range. This is the arithmetic that content upgrades cannot replicate. New speakers and events improve the programming layer. The same structural problem applies: events are experienced by members who show up to them, and members who show up to events tend to be more activated already.
